Smart Defensive Driving FAQ's

Smart Defensive Driving's contact information is listed on your webpage. How can I know for sure if it is a licensed driver training school in Florida?
Even though we provide a list of driver training schools on our website, we have no way of knowing for sure as to whether or not a particular school is certified by the Florida DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses.  We strongly suggest that you contact Smart Defensive Driving directly or check with the Florida DMV to find out for sure if Smart Defensive Driving is a licensed school.
Will the Florida DMV allow my parents to supervise my driving practice instead of requiring me to take a behind-the-wheel training course at a state-approved driving school?
Possibly.  Some states will allow your parents to supervise your driving practice in place of taking a driver training course with a professional driving instructor.  You will need to contact the Florida DMV to find out if your behind-the-wheel driving may be done by your parents in Florida.
What if I don't know how to operate a manual-shift automobile? Does Smart Defensive Driving have automatic-shift vehicles that I can drive when I do my driver training?
If you're taking a Lake City Florida driver training class, chances are you don't know how to drive ANY vehicle yet-- stick or automatic.  However, if you prefer an automatic vehicle then you should tell Smart Defensive Driving that prior to enrolling in the course in order to make sure they can accommodate you.
The area in which I live is mostly undeveloped--very few paved roads and mountains are all around. Will Smart Defensive Driving be able to teach me how to drive safely on rugged terrain as well as in a city or town?
Considering that you live in a remote area, chances are excellent that a local driving school like Smart Defensive Driving will want you to be able to drive safely on dirt roads and other types of rugged terrain.  You may wish to contact Smart Defensive Driving to find out exactly what their behind-the-wheel training course includes before registering for their training course.
Can I get my Florida instruction permit once I turn 14?
Most likely, no.  Most states have set the youngest age to obtain a learner's permit at 15 or 15½.  You may want to contact the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a certified driving instruction school like Smart Defensive Driving to learn more about the minimum age requirement in Florida.
Can I take Smart Defensive Driving's driver training course before taking a Lake City Florida drivers education classroom course or online course?
It depends on what Florida's laws prescribe.  However, you should know that most states will require teen-aged, first-time drivers to complete both a drivers education classroom course (which are approximately 30 hours in length, depending on Florida's laws) or an approved online course, plus a state-approved driver training course.  We recommend that you contact Smart Defensive Driving directly to see if they offer either (or both) of these courses.
I am looking to sign up to take a Lake City Florida defensive driving course. Can Smart Defensive Driving assist me with this?

What are the requirements in Lake City Florida for getting a drivers license?
It depends on your state's laws, however in many states, teen-agers must complete both a safe driving classroom course and a behind-the-wheel training course.  Smart Defensive Driving may offer an approved behind-the-wheel training course which you could take.  Please contact Smart Defensive Driving for information regarding their available classes and how to go about signing up for them.
Is it necessary for me to complete a behind-the-wheel training course in order to get my first Florida driver's license?
Yes, it is.  All teen-aged drivers applying for their first driver's license in Florida must complete a state-approved behind-the-wheel training course.
Is it okay for me to register for a behind-the-wheel training class in Florida before I receive my Florida learners permit to drive?
Probably not.  Most states require first-time drivers to have their instruction permit before they are allowed to enroll in a behind-the-wheel training program.  You should contact a driving instruction company like Smart Defensive Driving and request more information.
