Interlock FAQ's
Is Interlock a licensed driving school in Tennessee?
Just because a driving school appears on our directory of driver training institutions, we cannot guarantee that they are fully licensed to offer driver training courses in Tennessee. We highly recommend that you contact Interlock directly or the Tennessee DMV to find out for sure if Interlock offers driver training courses that have been approved by the State of Tennessee.
Could I just have my mother or father give me my behind-the-wheel training instead of paying money to take a professional behind-the-wheel training course?
It depends on which state you live in. There are some states which allow you to do your behind-the-wheel training with a parent or guardian instead of attending a professional driving school. However many states require that first-time drivers take a professionally-taught driver training course. We recommend that you check with your state's DMV office to find out if your parent or guardian can fill the role as your behind-the-wheel driving instructor.
What if I don't know how to drive a vehicle with a stick-shift? Does Interlock have an automatic-shift vehicle they'll let me train with?
Since you're just learning how to drive, you probably don't know how to operate either a stick-shift or an automatic-shift vehicle! However, if you have a preference as to a stick or an automatic, you probably should call Interlock to see if they can accommodate your request prior to your signing up to take their driver training course.
I live in a small mountain community, where there are a lot of small, unpaved roads. Will my behind-the-wheel training with Interlock include learning how to drive in remote areas? Or do they just offer training for urban driving?
Most local driving schools will likely want their students to know how to drive safely in the local area. Therefore, chances are good that the driver training you receive from Interlock will include handling dirt roads and mountain driving.
I'm turning 14 in a few days. Can I get a learner's permit to drive in Tennessee after my 14th birthday?
Most likely, no. Most states (though not all) have laws which require that you be at least 15 or 15 1/2 before to be eligible to apply for an instruction permit. Nevertheless, you may wish to contact the Tennessee DMV office or a Tennessee-certified driving school such as Interlock to find out for certain what the minimum driving age is in your local area.
Am I required to take a Nashville Tennessee classroom or online drivers education course before I can sign up to take a driver training course through Interlock?
This requirement varies from state to state but most states do mandate new teen-aged drivers to take BOTH a classroom-based defensive driving course (generally 30 hours in length) AND a behind-the-wheel training course. You should ask Interlock if they offer one or both programs.
Tennessee law says that I must successfully complete a driver training course in order to get licensed to drive in Nashville Tennessee. Is this something that Interlock can help me with?
Yes, Interlock offers the Tennessee-approved behind-the-wheel training course. For more information about their classes and instruction schedule, please contact Interlock directly.
What steps do I have to take in order to get a Tennessee drivers license in Nashville Tennessee?

Is it necessary for me to take a driver training course in order to get my first Tennessee driver's license?
Yes, it is. All teen-aged drivers applying for their first driver's license in Tennessee must complete a state-approved driver training course.
Is it okay for me to register for a driver training class in Tennessee before I receive my Tennessee instruction permit to drive?
