Economic Driving School FAQ's

Is Economic Driving School certified by the California DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses?
Although we include Economic Driving School in our directory of driving schools for San Jose California, we cannot make any assurances about whether or not Economic Driving School is certified by the California DMV.  You should contact Economic Driving School directly and ask them if you are thinking about registering for their San Jose California behind-the-wheel training class.
Could I just have my mother or father teach me how to drive instead of paying money to enroll in a professional behind-the-wheel training course?
It depends on which state you live in.  There are some states which permit you to do your hands-on driver training with a parent or guardian instead of attending a professional driving school.  However many states require that new drivers take a professionally-taught behind-the-wheel training course.  We recommend that you ask your state's DMV office to find out if your parent or guardian can fill the role as your behind-the-wheel driving instructor.
Do you know if Economic Driving School will let me complete my behind-the-wheel training using an automatic-shift vehicle? I don't know anything about using a stick-shift.
Considering you're a brand new driver, you probably don't know a whole lot about driving ANY type of vehicle, be it a manual OR an automatic!  Nevertheless, if you have a preference, you probably should contact Economic Driving School and see if they can accommodate you before registering for their behind-the-wheel training course.
What happens to those of us who live in a non-urban area? Will Economic Driving School include instruction on how to drive on dirt roads, mountain roads, and other bumpy terrain?
If you live in a rural location, there is a high probability that a local driver training school like Economic Driving School will either want--or even be required--to tailor their instruction towards driving safely in your particular area.
After I turn 14, will I be eligible to obtain my instruction permit so I can begin to learn how to drive?
It depends on which state you live in, however most states unfortunately require you to be at least 15 (or sometimes 15 1/2) before you can be issued a learner's permit.  We suggest that you contact a local driver training school such as Economic Driving School or the California DMV office to learn more about the minimum age requirement for driving in California.
Can I take Economic Driving School's behind-the-wheel training course before taking a San Jose California defensive driving classroom course or online course?
It depends on what California's laws say.  However, you should know that most states will require teen-aged, first-time drivers to complete both a drivers education classroom course (which are approximately 30 hours in length, depending on California's laws) or an approved online course, plus a state-approved behind-the-wheel training course.  We recommend that you contact Economic Driving School directly to see if they offer either (or both) of these courses.
I am looking to register for a San Jose California behind-the-wheel training course. Can Economic Driving School assist me with this?
Yes.  behind-the-wheel training courses are available in San Jose California through Economic Driving School.  Please contact Economic Driving School directly with questions regarding their schedule of classes and registration information.
I live in San Jose California. What requirements must I meet to be able to get my first California driver's license?
It depends on the particular laws of California, but most states require teen-aged first-time license applicants to successfully complete both a safe driving classroom course and a driver training course.  Economic Driving School may offer courses which would fulfill the behind-the-wheel training requirement, however you will need to contact them directly to find out exactly what types of courses they offer.
Is there a law in California that says I have to take behind-the-wheel training in order to get my driver's license?
Yes.  State law in California requires that all teen-agers take an approved driver training course before receiving a California driver's license.
Is it all right if I register with a behind-the-wheel training school like Economic Driving School prior to my obtaining my instruction permit?
In most states, you are required to have already received your learner's permit before you register for your driver training course like the one offered by Economic Driving School.  We suggest you contact either Economic Driving School to find out more information.
